Summer Reading
You probably already have a pile of novels packed and ready to go on vacation. "I do enough reading of non-fiction for work," you're saying. "So, I'm going to read nothing but mindless novels while I soak up some sun."

Read all the novels you want, but throw in a couple of the books from this summer reading list I have put together. It's not for work. It's for your own self-improvement.

Our first book on the summer reading list is The Million Dollar Toolbox. Pat and I put everything we teach at the Executive Speaking Institute into this book. Even if you have been through ESI, this book provides a remedial course for you to reference before your next presentation.

"My experience at ESI was definitely life changing. I will never forget this experience. "

Next is Speaking Secrets of the Masters, a compendium by America's top speakers. If you call 1-800-336-2693 prior to June 13 you can take advantage of our summer reading special. Get both The Million Dollar Toolbox and Speaking Secrets of the Masters in softback for $18.95, including shipping and handling.

Another book I highly recommend has nothing to do with speaking. Jeffrey Gitomer's new book, The Patterson Principles Of Selling, is relevant to everyone, not just those in sales. Based on the teachings of National Cash Register President John Patterson, the book is as much a recipe for self-improvement as it is a sales tool. A couple other books I recommend are Insights Into Excellence by the Speakers Roundtable and Visions: From The Leaders of Today For The Leaders of Tomorrow by yours truly.

Here are a few more we often use in our classes:

Speak With Confidence! by Dianna Booher

Never Be Nervous Again, Dorothy Sarnoff with Gaylen Moore

You Are The Message, Roger Ailes with Jon Kraushar

I Can See You Naked, Ron Hoff

How To Present Like A Pro, Lani Arredondo

50 Tips For Speaking Like A Pro, Terry Paulson

That's my summer reading list. What are you reading now or planning to read this summer?
Tell me about it.

  Coach's Corner
Coach Pat Boyd says that energy is both contagious and attractive and we can use it to our advantage in presentations.

PUT IT IN WRITING. If you carry note cards when you present, remind yourself. Write it on your notes. Put it on a sticky note and attach it to the top of your stack of handouts. Pencil it lightly along the edge of your flip chart.
