Hi.
There is a lot happening around Ty Boyd Executive Learning Systems that you should know.
On a personal note: many of you know, or have talked with, our daughter, Molly, who works at the home office of ELS. Well, she just got married May 31st at Caneel Bay, in the US Virgin Islands, and is now Molly Boyd Hunt. She'll still be working with us. That is, if she decides to come back from her honeymoon.
I have some more changes to tell you about. We're expanding Ty Boyd Executive Learning Systems by opening a New York regional office. John Brady and Patty Wright-Ferrini will staff that office for us. More on that later.
Recommended for every ESI graduate. Many of you have asked about our next scheduled
Advanced Executive Speaking Institute. We have scheduled a session for September 29 - 30, 2003 here in Charlotte. Space is limited. Only ESI graduates are eligible for this advanced opportunity. We have had so many people asking that we think it will fill up fast. So,
visit the website
to register now.

You're Our Next Emcee!
This is an area where my expertise rivals just about anyone but Bob Barker or Pat Sajak. Though I have always really enjoyed the emcee role, I never dreamed it would be such a big part of my work.
Years of broadcasts, hundreds of pageants, fairs, award ceremonies of every description, the annual International Retailer of the Year Awards in Chicago, the Positive Thinking Rallies, not to mention 18 years at the CPAE Banquet at National Speakers Association, have all sharpened my ax.
There are 12 key lessons about emceeing I have learned over the years. I'll cover a few of those here in the newsletter, and if you want to know more,
download this paper.
First, as emcee, you are the captain of the ship, the host. The members of the audience are your guests. Your job is to make them comfortable, to create a
dialogue between them and the various events on the program.
"You are outstanding! ESI has added immeasurably to my speaking skills."
Next, remember you are not the show, but you are responsible for the flow, the housekeeping, often the introductions, and the audience's concerns -- the total program. You are not the star, but are still critical to the program's success.
The job calls for a sense of theater. The way you handle your duties sets the stage for all that comes after you. This is particularly true of the way you introduce speakers.
In your introduction you need to answer several questions: Why this speaker? At this time? For this audience and at this place?
Finally, this job requires preparation. Do your homework. Now, come on down, you're our next emcee.

New York, New York
We have experienced a lot of growth here at ELS, so we are expanding to help meet the needs of our growing client base. So, John Brady and Patty Wright-Ferrini are joining us to open and operate our New York area regional office.
John joins us as Vice President and Director of Business Development. Besides training executives in our Excellence in Speaking Institute, he will also be responsible for marketing and business development.
Patty joins us as Vice President and Director of Professional Development. She, too will be an ESI trainer and a one-on-one coach for executive clients. Patty's other responsibilities include developing new courses for high-level executives.
We've known and admired John and Patty for more than a decade. Adding them to our team will have a huge impact on us and on our clients. They have tremendous energy and enthusiasm, and I hope you get to meet them soon.
